The Background |
Thirty years ago Canon Stone, then Parish Priest of St Mary’s, Inverness, visited some parishioners who had settled in the growing village of Culloden. With great vision he foresaw that years of unparalleled growth lay ahead. |
Canon Stone applied for permission to celebrate Mass in Duncan Forbes School, Culloden. Sunday Mass has been celebrated there every week for the past 30 years. |
The original congregation of a dozen people has grown over the years to fill the school gym to overflowing. The community has bonded through Sunday worship, a vibrant life of sacramental preparation and social gatherings. |

Soon there will be three churches in Inverness: St Mary’s (1837), St Ninian’s (1978) and an infant church at Culloden, churches traditional, new and modern. |
An enormous debt of gratitude is owed to all who have helped so far along the journey. To St Mary’s, Inverness and to St Ninian’s, Inverness, both of whose parishioners have given prayerful and financial support. A great number of friends, of all faiths and none, have given encouragement and kept the dream alive. |
